The 1912 New York Giants took three of four games from the 1914 Boston Braves in their first series of the season. The Giants scored late to win a pair of one-run games. Larry Doyle went 8-for-17 (.471) to lead New York and Christy Mathewson had the best start of the series, giving up one earned run in a complete-game win in game #2. Three Braves went 6-for-16 (.375): Charles Schmidt, Johnny Evers and Rabbit Maranville.
Game #1: New York 7, Boston 3
The Giants jumped out to a 5-0 lead as Fred Snodgrass drove in two with a single in the second inning, Jack Meyers had an RBI base hit in the third, and two unearned runs came in after an error in the fourth. Snodgrass drove in another run with a single in the fifth to make it 7-2.

Fred Merkle and Art Fletcher drove in runs in the second inning to put the Giants ahead 2-0. Boston tied it in the eighth on Les Mann’s RBI single. But the Giants went back ahead in the top of the ninth when Jack Meyers had a two-out single, then scored on Fletcher’s RBI double.

Boston overcame a 3-0 deficit to tie the game at three in the fifth, then went ahead 5-4 in the seventh on Les Mann’s two-run single. The Giants regained the lead with two runs in the bottom of the eighth despite not getting a hit. Back-to-back errors helped score one run, and Art Fletcher put the Giants ahead with his second sacrifice fly of the game.
