Detroit broke up a shutout and tied the game at one in the bottom of the eighth as Boss Schmidt doubled and scored on Davy Jones’ single. But the Tigers left the bases loaded. In the top of the ninth, the White Sox went back ahead as Nemo Leibold singled home the winning run following two walks. Eddie Cicotte gave up just one run and five hits in the win.

Detroit took a 3-2 lead in the fifth inning after Sam Crawford’s second RBI of the contest. But Chicago exploded for five runs in the top of the seventh, with winning pitcher Reb Russell providing an RBI triple, Eddie Collins knocking a two-run single and Shoeless Joe Jackson recording an RBI double.

Three times in the first six innings, the Tigers went up one run. Three times, the White Sox evened it up. Detroit then scored twice in the seventh on Ty Cobb’s RBI triple and Sam Crawford’s run-scoring single. The White Sox could only get one more in the bottom of the seventh, then had runners in scoring position in the eighth and ninth but couldn’t bring anyone home.

Chicago led 2-1 for much of the game but Detroit scored twice in the top of the ninth on an RBI single by Boss Schmidt and an RBI triple by Davy Jones. The White Sox got the tying run to second base with one out but Detroit held on.
