After being swept in week one, the 1906 Chicago Cubs bounced back with a sweep of their own, taking all four games from the 1912 Boston Red Sox. The series began with a pair of one-run games, followed by two Chicago routs. Harry Steinfeldt led Chicago (4-4) by hitting .417 (5-for-12) with four extra-base hits. Duffy Lewis went 5-for-14 (5-for-14) to pace Boston (2-6).
Game #1: Chicago 1, Boston 0
A great pitchers’ duel between the Cubs’ Ed Reulbach and the Red Sox’s Hugh Bedient was decided by a single unearned run. Reulbach tossed a one-hitter while Bedient only gave up four hits. In the fourth, Frank Chance reached base on a two-out error, and scored on Harry Steinfeldt’s double. That was it as Boston only got a single from Tris Speaker in the first inning, as well as one walk.

The Cubs went up 3-0 on Johnny Kling’s three-run homer in the fourth inning. The Red Sox rallied to tie the game in the sixth innings with three runs on no hits as Chicago starter Carl Lundgren fell apart and walked five while hitting one.
