The 1917 Chicago White Sox dominated the 1915 Philadelphia Phillies, as their pitchers tossed three shutouts and gave up only one run in the other contest. Red Faber had the best outing with a one-hitter. Buck Weaver hit .438 (7-for-16) to lead the White Sox (6-2). Bobby Byrne was limited to nine at-bats but had four hits for a .444 average to lead Philadelphia (5-7), which had only 17 hits total and batted just .142 over the four games.
Game #1: Chicago 4, Philadelphia 0
Eddie Cicotte gave up just three hits and two walks in the shutout. Only two Phillies made it as far as second base. Chicago’s Swede Risberg had RBI singles in both the second and third innings. Happy Felsch and Ray Schalk also drove in runs during a three-run third inning.

Chicago got an RBI single from Joe Jackson in the first inning, and a sacrifice fly from Buck Weaver in the fifth inning to make it 2-0. The Phillies got their only run of the entire series in the bottom of the fifth as Bert Niehoff doubled and later scored on a wild pitch. The White Sox added another run on a Happy Felsch RBI single in the eighth.

Red Faber tossed a one-hit, two-walk gem for the White Sox. Bobby Byrne singled in the sixth inning, but that was it. Byrne reached on an error and made it to third base in the first inning, but that was the only time a Phillie runner would make it into scoring position. Buck Weaver and Joe Jackson both had three hits for Chicago.
