The 1914 Boston Braves began the series with a win, but the 1906 Chicago Cubs came back to take the next three games. They did so in various ways: an 11-run barrage, an extra-innings victory, and a one-hit shutout courtesy of Jack Pfiester. The Cubs (12-12) got back to .500 as three players went 5-for-15 (.333): Frank Chance, Frank Schulte and Jimmy Slagle. The Braves (9-11) fell below .500 by not hitting well, as their top hitter was Johnny Evers at .286 (4-for-14).
Game #1: Boston 5, Chicago 1
The Braves broke out to a 3-0 lead in the third inning as Charles Schmidt drove in two with a single and Joe Connolly followed with a sacrifice fly. The Cubs’ only run came in the bottom of the third on Harry Steinfeldt’s sacrifice fly. Boston increased the lead in the fourth on winning pitcher Lefty Tyler’s RBI single, and added its fifth and final run in the fifth inning on Hank Gowdy’s sacrifice fly.

Game #2: Chicago 11, Boston 5
The Cubs couldn’t be stopped early, with multi-run innings in the second, third and fourth. They collected 10 runs on 13 hits in those three frames. Harry Steinfeldt drove in three runs on a pair of singles. He was one of four Cubs to score multiple runs. Jimmy Slagle and Joe Tinker also drove in multiple runs. Only once it was 11-0 did Boston start scoring runs. The run support helped Carl Lundgren win for the first time in six starts.

Game #3: Chicago 5, Boston 2 (11 inn.)
Boston took a pair of one-run leads, but Chicago tied the game up soon after both times. It stayed 2-2 until the top of the 11th. With one out, the Cubs strung together five consecutive singles, with Johnny Evers driving in the first two runs and Joe Tinker the final one as Chicago scored three times to earn the extra-innings win. Mordecai Brown went all 11 innings for the victory.

Game #4: Chicago 3, Boston 0
Jack Pfiester tossed a masterpiece, a one-hit, four-walk shutout with six strikeouts. The walks helped Boston get runners to third base in both the second and sixth innings, but no further. Pfiester’s no-hit bid was broken up by Hank Gowdy’s single in the seventh. Gowdy was thrown out at home trying to score on a fly out. The Cubs were already up 3-0 at that time, as Frank Schulte drove in two with a triple and then scored on Jimmy Slagle’s sacrifice fly in the fourth inning.
