The battle for St. Louis was won decisively, as the 1930 St. Louis Cardinals swept the 1922 St. Louis Browns in a four-game series to start week number three. It’s the first time this season a sweep has occurred. Both teams entered with 3-5 records but the Cardinals (7-5) made a solid move up the standings, while the Browns (3-9) dropped closer to the bottom.
The Cardinals scored 25 runs, hit .333 and had four batters go better than .400, including Frankie Frisch at .500 (8-for-16). Jack Tobin also hit .500 (9-for-18) for the Browns, who hit just .239 and scored 15 runs.

Game #3: Cardinals 11, Browns 6
Syl Johnson became the first pitcher to win three games after three starts. He had plenty of run support, beginning in the top of the first when Taylor Douthit led off the game with a home run, and George Fisher followed with a three-run homer later in the inning. Chick Hafey hit his league-leading sixth home run of the season in the ninth inning.

Game #4: Cardinals 3, Browns 2
The Cardinals went up 2-0 on Sparky Adams’ RBI double in the third inning and Taylor Douthit’s RBI single in the fifth. The Browns made it 2-1 in the sixth on Baby Doll Jacobson’s RBI single. But, the Cardinals made it a two-run lead again in the top of eighth on George Watkins’ two-out RBI single. The Browns got one back in the bottom of the eighth on Marty McManus’ RBI single, but left the potential game-tying run on third base, then went quietly in the ninth.
