The 1925 Washington Senators posted a decisive victory in their series against the 1919 Cincinnati Reds, winning three of four contests. The Senators improved to 9-7 while the Reds fell to 3-9.
The Senators won despite hitting just .190 over the four games. Muddy Ruel (4-for-11) hit a team-best .364. Stan Coveleski had a shutout in the opener and Sam Rice had a walk-off hit in game three. The Reds managed a .198 team average and were led by Jake Daubert at .385 (5-for-13). Slim Sallee tossed a shutout in game two for Cincinnati’s only win.

Stan Coveleski tossed a three-hit shutout for the Senators, giving him a miniscule 0.98 ERA after four starts, though just a 2-1 record. Washington got all three runs in the fourth inning on an RBI single by Ossie Bluege and a two-run single from Muddy Ruel, both coming with two outs.

The Reds bounced back with a three-hit shutout of their own, courtesy of Slim Sallee. He outdueled Walter Johnson, who failed in his attempt to improve to 4-0. It was scoreless until the sixth when Cincinnati plated two on a Edd Roush triple, a Greasy Neale RBI single and a Sherry Magee sacrifice fly. The Reds got two more in the eight on an RBI single by Magee and an RBI double from Ivey Wingo.

Cincinnati led 3-2 after six innings, but Washington tied it in the seventh on Goose Goslin’s RBI single. In the bottom of the ninth, Washington put runners on first and second with two out and Sam Rice came through with a game-ending RIB single.

The Reds scored first on Larry Kopf’s RBI single in the second inning, but the Senators scored four times in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Sam Rice had a sacrifice fly in the third, Roger Peckinpaugh had an RIB single in the fourth and Goose Goslin had a run-scoring double in the fifth. Edd Roush had an RBI single for the Reds in the eighth, and though they got the tying run on base, they couldn’t score any more.
