The 1922 St. Louis Browns were three outs away from their first series win of the season, but the 1922 New York Giants rallied to capture the finale and even the series at two wins apiece. The two squads will still find themselves in the bottom half of the standings at the end of week seven.
George Kelly led the Giants (10-14) with a .471 average (8-for-17). George Sisler and Wally Gerber each batted .286 (4-for-14) for the Browns (6-18), who also got three home runs from Ken Williams.
Game #1: St. Louis 1, New York 0
The Browns’ Urban Shocker and the Giants’ Art Nehf each had a shutout going until the eighth inning. Finally, Nehf threw one bad pitch, and St. Louis slugger Ken Williams launched a solo home run for what turned out to be the only run of the game. New York put runners into scoring position in four different innings but Shocker got out of it each time.

Game #3: St. Louis 6, New York 2
St. Louis jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first thanks to a Marty McManus solo homer and a Ken Williams two-run shot, his third home run in three games. New York closed the gap to 3-2, but St. Louis scored runs without the help of a home run for the first time in the series in the top of the eighth, as Wally Gerber’s two-run double and Frank Ellerbe’s RBI single put the game out of reach.

Game #4: New York 4, St. Louis 3
The Browns took a 3-1 lead on Baby Doll Jacobson’s home run in the top of the seventh. St. Louis starter Ray Kolp was pitching well, but the Browns elected to go to bullpen ace Hub Pruett in the bottom of the ninth. It didn’t work out well, as Pruett talked three batters, including one with the bases loaded. With one out, Dave Bancroft had a walk-off single that scored the tying and winning runs.
