Neither the first-place 1920 Cleveland Indians or the fourth-place 1930 St. Louis Cardinals could take advantage in their week 7 series, as the two teams split their four games. The Cardinals (16-12) won the opener and finale, while the Indians (17-7) took the middle two contests. St. Louis isn’t eliminated, but with only four games left, the Cardinals’ hopes are on life support. Cleveland has eight games remaining and keeps a one-game lead in the standings.
Tris Speaker went 10-for-18 (.556) with eight RBI and Steve O’Neill went 8-for-16 (.500) to lead the Indians. For the Cardinals, Frankie Frisch went 9-for-16 (.562), George Watkins took sole possession of first place for the home run leaders and Burleigh Grimes won the opener to remain the only starting pitcher in the league without a loss.
