Pepp Golf: Round 1 at Chambers Bay

The Waves are facing their biggest challenge of the season thus far, as an extremely difficult Chambers Bay Golf Course saw them post scores much higher than the last couple of tournaments. Only four players finished below par in the first round, with Clay Feagler and Derek Hitchner tied for first place with 2-under 68s and Roy Cootes and Joe Vrzich with 1-under 69s.

The Waves’ average score in the first round was 71.6, more than a stroke-and-a-half higher than the par of 70.

  • Feagler had a round-high five birdies, followed by Cootes, Hitchner and McManus with four.
  • Feagler was the only player to score below par on both the front and back nine, with1-under 35s on both. Three players were below par on the front nine and five players were below par on the back nine.
  • Chambers Bay is a home course for some of the Waves players who hailed from Washington, though none of them fared particularly well in the first round, with Highsmith and Putnam in seventh and Manke in 14th.
