GTOP S3W3: Recap

The season is now one-third of the way done, as week three out of nine has been completed. The 1935 Chicago Cubs and the 1937 New York Yankees both took three out of four games in their series this week to claim a share of first place.

It’s been a pitchers’ league to this point, with the league batting average of .230. Chicago’s done most of the work with a league-best .282 average, and the Cubs are just one of two teams above .240. The league ERA is 3.07, with five teams below 3.00 and only one above 4.00.

Five pitchers have won all of their starts to this point, with Dave Ferriss (Boston) and Red Ruffing (New York) the first two to 3-0. Frank Demaree (Chicago) has overcome all of the great pitching to this point and is at a league-best .449 average, more than 60 points better than his closest competitor.

Week 4’s highlighted matchup features the Cubs and the 1931 Philadelphia Athletics, two of the top three teams in the league at this point.
