Pepp Golf: Round 2 at Torrey Pines

A number of Waves went very low during round 2 at the Torrey Pines North Course, setting up what should be a a very competitive finish. RJ Manke was excellent for the second straight round, and his 11-under 133 has given him a one-stroke lead. Five teammates are within four shots.

Joshua McCarthy is just one shot behind as he goes for a second straight title. Cody McManus had his best round of the season by far, an 8-under 64, to move him up to third place. William Mouw, Derek Hitchner and Sahith Theegala are also within striking distance.

  • Manke had seven birdies and two bogeys for a 5-under 67. He won the opener at Sherwood and is going for his second title.
  • McCarthy was 1-over after eight holes, than recorded seven birdies over the final 10 holes for a 6-under 66.
  • McManus had eight birdies and zero miscues. He had five birdies in a six-hole stretch on the back nine.
  • Hitchner (7-under 65) and Mouw (6-under 66) also had great rounds. Hitchner played a bogey-free round.
  • Mouw had a pair of eagles. There were several others on the day by Murphy, Feagler, Vrzich, Putnam and Hitchner.
  • The course played a full two strokes easier than the round before, going from an average of 71.9 to 69.9.
