After a run of head-scratching results, is Sahith Theegala back? He fired a 9-under 61 to grab a big lead after the first round at East Lake Golf Club.
Theegala hasn’t finished better than fifth in each of the last five tournaments. He won the second tournament of the season but there hasn’t been much success since. The 9-under was his second-best round of the season.
Four golfers shot a 4-under 66 to finish five shots back of Theegala: Clay Feagler, Joe Highsmith, Joshua McCarthy and Austin Murphy.

- Theegala had 10 birdies and one bogey on the day. He ran off five straight birdies on holes 2-6, and also finished his round with three straight after the bogey came on 15.
- McCarthy and Murphy had zero bogeys and four birdies en route to their 66s, while Highsmith and Feagler both had one bogey and five birdies.
- The first-round average score on the par-70 course was 69.5. Seven of the 16 golfers finished below par.
