Pepp Golf: Round 2 at East Lake

Joshua McCarthy had a big second round at East Lake Golf Club to jump into the lead. Sahith Theegala couldn’t duplicate his first-round success, but he sits just one stroke behind heading into the final round. Joe Highsmith and Austin Murphy are also in contention, while a few others aren’t out of it yet.

  • McCarthy had nine birdies and two bogeys en route to a 7- under 63, the best score of the day. He took the lead on 13 when he birdied and Theegala double-bogeyed. That was the first of four birdies in the final six holes.
  • Theegala followed up his 9-under 61 with a 1-under 69. That double-bogey put his him at 2-over on the day, but he birdied three of the final four holes.
  • Highsmith had his second straight 66 with six birdies, three coming in the final four holes.
  • After zero eagles in the first round, there were two in the second: Murphy on the par-5 sixth hole, and Mouw on the par-5 18th.
  • Eleven golfers went below par in round two and the average score dropped to 68.6 strokes per round.
