GTOP S3W7: 1934 Cardinals vs. 1933 Senators

It won’t have any affect on the standings, but the 1934 St. Louis Cardinals and 1933 Washington Senators had an entertaining four-game split, featuring the highest-scoring game of the season, an extra-inning effort and a contest decided in the ninth inning.

Three Senators (14-14) hit better than .400, with Goose Goslin at .450 (9-for-20), Buddy Myer at .438 (7-for-16) and Joe Kuhel at .412 (7-for-17). All three players drove in four runs. Ripper Collins batted .412 (7-for-17) to lead the Cardinals (8-16).

Washington has gone 2-2 in all seven of its series this season.

Game #1: St. Louis 6, Washington 3

The Senators jumped out to a 3-0 lead after two innings thanks to an RBI double from Joe Cronin and a two-run double by Heinie Manush. The lead wouldn’t last, however. Joe Medwick’s two-RBI double put the Cardinals ahead 4-3 in the fifth inning, and he had another one in the ninth inning to make it 6-3.
