GTOP S3W7: Recap

Only two weeks of games remain, and things are tight atop the standings. The 1935 Chicago Cubs had the bye in week 7 and they had to watch and see what their closest competitors would do. The 1941 Brooklyn Dodgers took three of four from the 1946 Boston Red Sox, pulling them into a tie with the Cubs. The 1937 New York Yankees had a chance to take over first place by themselves, but had to settle for a split with the 1940 Cincinnati Reds.

The Yankees (17-11) will finish up their season in week 8, as they have the bye in week 9. The Cubs and Dodgers, both at 15-9, have eight games remaining. All three leaders play teams below .500 in week 8.

The Dodgers’ Curt Davis is the last perfect pitcher left, as he’s now 6-0 after six starts. He’s one of only three unbeaten starters along with the Reds’ Jim Turner and the Red Sox’s Dave Ferriss. Only one starter has yet to earn a win, and surprisingly it’s a member of the first-place Dodgers, Luke Hamlin.

Joe DiMaggio is up to 11 home runs, tying the most by any player in season 1 or 2. He’s got four games left to set the single-season record. Lou Gehrig is close behind with nine homers.
