For the first time since Season 1, a team has begun its campaign with a 4-0 record. Led by Roberto Clemente, the 1960 Pittsburgh Pirates had by far the best offense in the league in week 1, as well as the second-best pitching numbers.
Season 4 had a different start then the previous three, as this went from a nine-team league to eight teams. To keep a 32-game schedule, week 1 saw each team play single games against four different teams. As luck would have it, the fourth gameday of week 1 featured the last two unbeaten teams, and the Pirates easily handled the 1953 New York Yankees.
If things continue like week 1, with pretty low team batting averages other than Pittsburgh, this may be shaping up to be another pitching-dominated league.
