11/2/22: Miami 110, Sacramento 96

The Sacramento Kings dropped their second straight road game, falling 110-96 to the Miami Heat. It was their first time scoring less than 100 points this season.

The Kings (5-2) had better percentages for shooting (50.0% to 49.4%), three-pointers (50.0% to 40.0%) and free throws (93.8% to 84.2%) but couldn’t overcome 24 turnovers, by far a season high.

Harrison Barnes scored 23 points and Domantas Sabonis had 17 points and 14 rebounds.

Miami, which committed only 10 turnovers, was led by Tyler Herro’s 34 points.

The Kings’ scoring drop could be attributed to not having De’Aaron Fox available, but Miami was in a similar situation without Jimmy Butler. Two games ago, the Kings beat the Heat at home 123-105.

The Kings had a great first quarter. Trailing 17-15, they went on a 12-2 run, with five points by Malik Monk, to take an eight-point lead at 27-19. It was 27-22 at the end of the quarter.

Sacramento had a horrific second quarter and scored just eight points, while the Heat put up 28 points. The Kings’ final lead of the game was at 31-30 after a basket by Davion Mitchell. The key run of the game took place right then, as Miami scored 13 straight points to go up 43-31. Gabe Vincent had six points during the run. The Heat’s lead stayed in double-digits for the remainder of the game. It was 50-35 at halftime.

Miami’s biggest lead of the second half was 26 points at 90-64 with 11 minutes to go in the game. The Kings cut that deficit in half with two minutes to go, but got no closer than 13 at any point in the second half.

This game was played with Bank Shot Basketball (I had hoped to do a run of games with Highlight Maker Hoops Prime Time, but some key reserves in this game were not part of that set).
