11/5/22: Orlando 117, Sacramento 106

The Orlando Magic pounded the Sacramento Kings in the post and handed the Kings their third straight loss of the road trip, 117-106.

Big men Paolo Banchero (28 points, 12-for-18 shooting), Wendell Carter Jr. (25 points, 10-for-13 shooting, 13 rebounds) and Bol Bol (13 points and 10 rebounds) dominated inside and the Magic shot 55.7%, a season high by a Sacramento opponent.

De’Aaron Fox was back in the lineup and had team highs of 27 points and seven assists. Domantas Sabonis scored 21 before fouling out. After winning their first five games of the season, the Kings are now 5-3. They have one more game on the road trip at Golden State before getting five of the following six at home.

The Kings only led once in the game at 5-4 after a basket by Harrison Barnes. It was tied at 10-10, but the Magic went on an 8-0 run and they kept the lead the rest of the contest. It was a nine-point lead at 31-22 at the end of the first quarter.

Sabonis scored five straight points to make it a one-point deficit at 37-36 with six minutes left in the second quarter. But the Magic came right back with an 11-3 run to go back up by nine. They went up by 11 at 52-41 after two straight baskets by Banchero. It was 56-49 at halftime.

The Kings got the deficit down to five points at 62-57 after a Sabonis three-pointer, but the Magic quickly got the lead back up to 11 at 70-59. It was 84-78 after three quarters.

The Kings got within five points twice midway through the fourth quarter, but Orlando had an answer every time the Kings scored from that point on. A 9-1 Orlando run put the game away as they took their biggest lead of the game, 15 points, at 113-98 with under three minutes to play.
