11/7/22: Sacramento 141, Golden State 137 (OT)

In what will probably go down as the most amazing game of the season, there were 37 lead changes (16 in the fourth quarter), a shot at the buzzer to send the game to overtime and a near-record three-point barrage, all of which finally resulted in the Sacramento Kings ending up with a road victory over the Golden State Warriors, 141-137.

The teams combined for 44 three-pointers, four shy of the NBA single-game record. The Kings made 25, which would tie the franchise record.

Stephen Curry hit 12 three-pointers en route to a 51-point performance for the Warriors. Malik Monk sank nine three-pointers and led the Kings with 31 points.

The Kings also got 24 points and 11 assists from De’Aaron Fox, 23 points and six three-pointers from Kevin Huerter and 21 points and 20 rebounds from Domantas Sabonis. The Warriors had Klay Thompson score 25 and Andrew Wiggins get 23 points and 12 rebounds (and a game-tying basket at the regulation buzzer).

The biggest lead of the game for either team was seven points.

After losing the previous three road games, the Kings (6-3) finished off the four-game trip with their second road victory of the season against the Warriors. In real life, the Kings lost this one to fall to 3-6.

The Kings jumped out to an early six-point lead at 9-3 and 12-6. After 10 first-quarter lead changes, a high-scoring first period ended with the Kings in front 44-39. Curry had 18 first-quarter points.

The Kings struggled in the second quarter, scoring only 15 points. Golden State went up by six at 61-55 and led 64-59 at halftime.

The Warriors twice went up by seven in the third quarter, first at 68-61 and again at 73-66. The Kings then went on a 9-2 run to tie the game at 75. A late 7-0 run put Sacramento ahead by six at 88-82, and it was 88-84 after the third quarter.

The biggest lead of the fourth quarter was four points by the Kings. Momentum shifted back and forth with the 16 lead changes. A three-pointer by Harrison Barnes put Sacramento ahead 125-123 with one minute to go. The Kings got a stop and had a chance to ice the game on their final possession, but missed. The Warriors quickly went down the court and Wiggins made a lay-up just as time expired to tie the game at 125.

There were four more lead changes in overtime. Curry hit back-to-back three pointers to put Golden State up 133-130. But the Kings scored the next six points to go up 136-133. Golden State cut it to one, but a three-pointer by Monk and a jumper by Fox put the Kings up 141-135 in the final minute, too late for Golden State to come back.
