12/11/22: Sacramento 118, New York 110

The Sacramento Kings picked up a much-needed road win, beating the New York Knicks 118-110.

The Kings won a game that they didn’t in real life and improved to 14-11, matching their actual record after 25 games.

Harrison Barnes made 11 of 14 shots and scored a team-high 28 points. Domantas Sabonis and Trey Lyles both scored 26 points. Lyles nearly doubled his previous season high and did it in 19 minutes of work. He shot 8-for-9 from the field and 5-for-6 on three-pointers.

R.J. Barrett scored a game-high 29 points for the Knicks, and Julius Randle put up 25 points.

The Knicks took a couple of five-point leads early, but the Kings went ahead late in the first quarter. Lyles had a 7-0 run all by himself to put Sacramento up 28-19, and it was 29-24 at the break.

Midway through the second quarter, Davion Mitchell hit a three-pointer to give the Kings their first double-digit lead at 41-31, and Sabonis followed with a basket to make it a 12-point lead at 43-31. New York cut the deficit to five at 51-46 at halftime.

Quentin Grimes gave the Knicks a 58-57 lead a few minutes into the third quarter, but Mitchell responded with another three-pointer and the Kings never trailed again. Later on, Lyles hit a three-pointer to put Sacramento ahead 78-69, and Kevin Huerter hit a three-pointer at the end of the quarter to make it 91-78. The Kings scored 40 points in the quarter, with eight three-pointers.

The Kings took their biggest lead of the game in the fourth quarter at 100-85 on another Lyles three-pointer. The Knicks chipped away a bit, closing the gap to six points at 108-102 with under three minutes to play. New York tried fouling late, but the Kings hit enough free throws to put the game away.
