12/21/22: Sacramento 143, LA Lakers 132

De’Aaron Fox scored 37 points, most by a King this season, as the Sacramento Kings won for the fifth time in six games with a high-scoring 143-132 home victory over the Los Angeles Lakers.

Fox made 15 of 19 shots, plus had a team-high six assists. They needed all of his points to counter LeBron James, who had a game-high 40 points on 15 of 21 shooting.

The 143 points were the second-most scored by the Kings this season. They put up 88 points in the second and third quarters combined. Sacramento (18-12) shot a season-best 62.9% from the field and made more than half of its three-point attempts (15 for 28).

Harrison Barnes scored 25 points and Domantas Sabonis had 21 points and 12 rebounds.

The teams played a close first quarter with eight ties and three lead changes. LA took a 37-32 lead after the first quarter.

The Lakers scored the first basket of the second quarter to go up by seven, which would turn out to be their largest of the game. The Kings quickly took back the lead, though, and went up by eight at 53-45 after a Fox basket. The Lakers would close that gap, and there would be six lead changes and three ties in the final three minutes. The Kings took a 76-74 lead into halftime.

Sacramento never trailed in the second half. The Kings eventually took their first double-digit lead at 102-92 with under seven minutes to play in the third quarter after a Kevin Huerter basket. Sabonis made it 114-100 with under three minutes to go, and it was 120-108 after three quarters.

The Kings took their biggest lead of game, 15 points, at 127-112 with under nine minutes to go on a Keegan Murray three-pointer. The Lakers fought their way back into and got the deficit down to six at 131-125 under five minutes to play. But the Kings responded with a 7-0 run, the first coming from Sabonis, to push the lead back to double-figures.
