12/23/22: Washington 130, Sacramento 125

The Sacramento Kings lost a winnable home game, falling 130-125 to Washington Wizards, though the same thing happened to their real-life counterparts.

The Kings had won five of six coming in, but dropped to 18-13, one game better than their real-life mark.

Harrison Barnes scored a team-high 26 points thanks to a 13-for-14 effort from the foul line. Domantas Sabonis was a rebound away from a triple-double, as he finished with 17 points, 11 assists and nine rebounds.

Kristaps Porzingas led the Wizards with 29 points and 12 rebounds, while Bradley Beal scored 26 and Monte Morris had 10 assists to go with 10 points. A poor defensive effort by the Kings saw Washington shoot 59.7% from the field and 57.1% on three-pointers.

Barnes scored the first basket of the game, but that 2-0 lead was the only one of the entire contest for Sacramento after Washington scored the next seven points. The Kings got the deficit down to one at 11-10 and 21-20 but the Wizards hit a three-pointer both times. It was 31-29 at the end of the quarter.

The Wizards took their first double-digit lead at 54-44 with a little more four minutes to play in the second quarter. They went up by as many as 13 before taking a 70-59 advantage at the half.

The Wizards’ biggest lead of the game was 16 points and it came at three different times in the third quarter, first at 78-62 and 80-64, and then later on at 93-77. The Kings ended the third quarter on an 8-0 run, with Keegan Murray hitting a pair of three-pointers, to cut the deficit to seven at 94-87.

Washington went back up by as many as 13 in the fourth quarter, though the Kings cut away at the lead again. A three-pointer by De’Aaron Fox made it 111-105 with under six minutes to go. But, the Wizards responded again with six straight points. The Kings hit a couple of late shots and the final margin was as close as it was all second half.
