1/11/23: Sacramento 129, Houston 122 (OT)

The Sacramento Kings blew a 22-point lead and got taken to overtime by the Houston Rockets, but the Kings recovered in the extra period and earned a 129-122 victory for their fourth straight home win.

Seven Kings (24-16) scored in double-figures, though only De’Aaron Fox scored more than 20, with 24. Domantas Sabonis had 18 points and 17 rebounds.

Jalen Green scored a game-high 36 points to lead the Rockets. He sent the game to overtime with a basket in the closing seconds of regulation. Kenyon Martin Jr. added 30 off the bench.

The Rockets scored the first five points of the game but that turned out to be their only lead of the game. The Kings scored the next 11 points, and soon after took their first double-digit lead at 18-8. It was 34-21 at the end of the first quarter.

KZ Okpala hit a three-pointer to give the Kings a 20-point lead at 49-29. The Kings biggest of the lead of the game was 22 points, which first came at 58-36 after a Terence Davis three-pointer. A late 8-0 Houston run helped cut the deficit to 69-56 at the break.

Houston chipped away further at the lead in the third quarter, getting it down to two points at 80-78 and one point at 87-86. The Kings went back up by seven at 97-90 at the end of the quarter.

The Kings’ offense went quiet in the fourth quarter and they scored only 18 points. They still led by seven at 113-106 with under five minutes to play, however, after Sabonis scored two baskets. But the Kings only scored two more points in regulation, and Houston ended the quarter on a 9-2 run, including Green’s game-tying basket in the final seconds to make it 115-115.

Fox scored the first six points of overtime as Sacramento went up 121-115. Neither team could find the mark for the next couple of minutes, and the Kings still led 123-120 heading into the final minutes. The Kings went 4-for-4 from the free throw line to ice the game.
