2022-23 Sacramento Replay Midseason Review

At the halfway point of my 2022-23 Sacramento Kings replay, the Beam Team is 25-16, two games better than they were in real life.

In the three game engines I’ve been using, the Kings are 19-8 with Bank Shot Basketball, 5-5 with Highlight Maker Hoops Prime Time and 1-3 with Hoops. I hadn’t planned on utilizing Bank Shot Basketball so much, but as the only game to card every player, I’ve needed to use it most of the time. Hopefully that will change in the second half of the season, I’d really like to get Hoops on the table a lot more.

There’s not really enough data from Hoops to say for certain, but the stats show a pretty big range between the game engines. Altogether, though, they’ve made the total replay average pretty close to the real life numbers.

Field goal percentages are too high in BSB and too low in HMHPT. Three-pointers and free throws are too high in HMHPT and too low in BSB.

One thing that appears clear from playing these games is that there’s a big advantage to being the home team. The Kings are 19-4 in Sacramento and 6-12 in away contests. That’s not favorable for the second half of the season, when the Kings will have to play a lot more road games. It seems crazy, but in 2022-23 the Kings were better on the road, 25-16 vs. 23-18.

Individual Player Observations: De’Aaron Fox is shooting ridiculously well, but right on target for his points per game … Keegan Murray won’t set the NBA rookie record for three-pointers at this pace … Domantas Sabonis had 14 triple-doubles in 2022-23 but has only one so far in the replay. It seems hard for centers to get a lot of assists with these engines. He’s also running behind on double-doubles (65 total, 25 so far).
