Game 1: New York 2, Cincinnati 1
The Giants were held in check for the first seven innings, but Willie Mays launched a two-run homer over the left-field wall with two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning to give San Francisco the win. Christy Mathewson got the win, but gave up seven hits and four walks and was pitching out of trouble for most of the game. The Reds could only push one run across, however, as Edd Roush tripled and Johnny Temple followed with a single in the fifth inning. Johnny Vander Meer was the hard-luck loser, as he only gave up four hits.
