King of the Ring Championship Match

Randy Savage def. Honky Tonk Man by pinfall at 25:00.

Randy Savage earned the championship of the first King of the Ring tournament, ending upset-minded Honky Tonk Man’s run to the final. It wasn’t really close, as Savage hit a number of damaging blows, had success off the top rope, and didn’t allow Honky Tonk Man a single pin attempt.

This one ended with Savage’s Flying Elbow Drop, as he put down Honky Tonk Man for good with his finisher after close to half an hour of action.

After winning seven straight losers’ bracket matches, Honky Tonk Man was wrestling for the 10th time. Savage went straight through the competition, beating all six of his opponents, including Honky Tonk Man twice. After wrestling several extra times, Honky Tonk Man seemingly didn’t have much left in the tank for this one.

Savage, the #4 overall seed, defeated #29 Bob Orton, #20 Honky Tonk Man, #21 Brutus Beefcake, #9 Ricky Steamboat, #2 Andre the Giant, and #20 Honky Tonk Man for a second time.
