Gameday #5 featured not one, but two extra-inning walk-off home runs, as the teams began their first four-game series of the season. Mickey Mantle kept the 1961 New York Yankees unbeaten and on top of the standings with his blast, while Tony Conigliaro of the 1967 Boston Red Sox kept the 1969 New York Mets winless with his long ball. The 1969 Minnesota Twins maintained their ongoing offensive explosion to stay one game back of the Yankees. The Yanks’ Yogi Berra hit two home runs for the second time in three games.
St. Louis 6, San Francisco 1

St. Louis made it 5-0 in the fourth on a two-run double by Mike Shannon. The Giants (2-3) got their only run in the fifth on Chuck Hiller’s RBI double. Lou Brock capped off the scoring with a solo homer in the seventh. The Cardinals’ Ray Washburn pitched eight strong innings for the win.

New York Yankees 4, Los Angeles 3 (10 inn.)
Yogi Berra had his second two-home-run game in the last three contests, as he hit a solo shot in the second inning and a two-run blast in the sixth that tied the game at three. The Dodgers had taken a 3-1 lead in the fifth thanks for RBI singles by Tommy Davis and Ron Fairly and an RBI double by Frank Howard. The Yankees loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the ninth but couldn’t get a run home. With their best relievers unavailable, the Dodgers (3-2) kept Sandy Koufax on the mound. But with two outs in the bottom of the 10th, Mickey Mantle slammed a game-winning homer off him to keep the Yankees (5-0) unbeaten.
