The 1961 New York Yankees are back on top by themselves, as they opened up their series with the 1969 New York Mets by posting a 6-3 victory, while the 1969 Minnesota Twins’ potent offense went cold in a 5-1 loss to the 1962 San Francisco Giants. The 1961 Detroit Tigers had the biggest performance of the day, as Frank Lary pitched a shutout and Rocky Colavito hit two homers in a 10-0 rout of the 1967 Boston Red Sox.
San Francisco 5, Minnesota 1

The Twins (6-3) finally got on the board in the sixth inning with their second and third hits of the game, as Johnny Roseboro doubled and scored on Rod Carew’s single. But the Giants (4-5) added to their lead with solo homers by Haller in the sixth and Orlando Cepeda in the seventh. Billy Pierce tossed eight strong innings for the win.
