4/4-6/2025: Seattle at San Francisco

After losing the home opener to the Seattle Mariners, the Giants bounced back to win the next two, picking up their first series win of the season and improving to 4-5. The bats did considerably better in this series, with a total of 30 hits and 14 runs, though nine of them came in one game. The Giants raised their team batting average to .201, and lowered the ERA to 2.69.

April 4 (4-3 loss): The Mariners jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the third inning on Randy Arozarena’s two-run double, and they made it 3-0 in the top of the fifth when Arozarena singled, stole second and scored on Jorge Polanco’s single. The Giants got one back in the bottom of the firth when Matt Chapman walked and scored on Heliot Ramos’ double. Seattle made it a three-run lead again at 4-1 on a solo homer by Polanco in the top of the seventh. Chapman came though with his third homer of the season, a two-run shot in the bottom of the seventh, making it 4-3. In the bottom of the ninth, Jung Hoo Lee doubled with one out, but the Giants couldn’t bring him home. Justin Verlander fell to 0-2.

April 5 (9-1 win): The Giants’ bats finally had a big game, with season highs of nine runs and 12 hits. Willy Adames homered twice. All nine runs came in the first four innings. LaMonte Wade and Adames led off the bottom of the first with singles, and they would end up scoring on a groundout and an error. Adames had a solo shot in the second inning and Heliot Ramos hit a two-run homer in the third inning. In the fourth, Adames added a two-run homer, his third of the season, and Mike Yastrzemski provided a two-run double. Robbie Ray had another great start, pitching seven shutout innings and only allowing two hits, to improve to 2-0. Seattle’s only run came in the eighth off the Giant bullpen on Cal Raleigh’s RBI double.

April 6 (2-1 win): The Giants got an early run in the second inning when Heliot Ramos was hit by a pitch, and Luis Matos later doubled him home. Seattle tied it in the fourth. They loaded the bases with no one out, but only plated one run on Dylan Moore’s sacrifice fly. The Giants scored the go-ahead run in the seventh when Mike Yastrzemski had a leadoff single, and he scored on Matos’ second RBI double of the contest. Jordan Hicks had another quality start but had a no-decision. Four Giant relievers didn’t allow a run over their four innings of work. Tyler Rogers got the win and Camilo Doval picked up his second save.
