Great Teams of the Past will go on pause for a little while as I embark on a different APBA baseball project: a replay of the 2025 San Francisco Giants season.
I got back into Major League Baseball in a big way in 2025, getting the MLB TV package and watching tons of games, and even going to a couple of games in person for the first time in a decade. I watched the Giants first and foremost, so I’ll be doing my first modern baseball replay with them (after previously doing the 1989 Giants and the 1989 Athletics).
The 2025 Giants went 81-81 and finished in third place in the National League West. So this will be the first replay I do that doesn’t involve a “good” team. I’m interested to see how the dice will help them to overperform or underperform, or finish around .500 again.
I’ll be utilizing as-played starting lineups, and will try to use the relief pitchers that appeared in any given game. But that’ll depend on how the games play out. Any injuries will be for that game only.
I’m playing a hybrid version of the APBA game, employing master pitcher ratings, lefty-righty splits and individual fielding. But stolen bases and baserunning will be dictated by the charts.
Select games are again being shown on my YouTube channel.
This project began in March 2026.
