The replay has gone off the rails at the end of July, as the Giants earned their second straight three-game sweep instead of two real-life series where they were the team that was swept. In real life, San Francisco ended July with two wins in its final 14 games to fall below .500. But in the replay, after sweeping the Pittsburgh Pirates at home, the Giants won 12 of their final 15 in July to move to a season-best 15 wins over .500.
At this point in 2025, the Giants were sellers at the trading deadline, and they’ll now say goodbye to starting outfielder Mike Yastrzemski and bullpen standouts Tyler Rogers and Camilo Doval. Surely the Giants would keep them if they were actually 62-47 and just one game out of the NL West lead.
With the diminished lineup and less effective players seeing more playing time in August and September, maybe things will reverse and the Giants will end up closer to their real-life .500. Or maybe they’ll just keep hitting and pitching at a pace beyond their real-life counterparts.

July 28 (13-6 win): The Giants scored in six of their eight at-bats and hit four home runs, two of them by Rafael Devers. He had a solo shot in the first and a two-run blast in the second, as well as an RBI single in the fifth. Patrick Bailey hit a three-run homer in the second inning and Matt Chapman had a two-run homer in the seventh. Jung Hoo Lee had a bases-loaded triple in the fourth. Making his season debut, Carson Whisenhunt wasn’t great, but he got the win thanks to the run support.

July 29 (5-2 win): Wilmer Flores got the Giants off a 2-0 lead in the first inning with a two-run triple. The Pirates tied it with a pair of runs in the third. It stayed 2-2 until the bottom of the seventh, when Matt Chapman hit a three-run homer, his 19th of the season.

July 30 (8-1 win): A four-run first inning, which included a two-run triple by Matt Chapman and RBI singles by Willy Adames and Casey Schmitt, was enough to propel the Giants to the sweep. That was more than enough for Logan Webb, who won his 16th game after giving up just one run in six innings of work. Rafael Devers added a three-run homer in the eighth.
