After losing the first two games against the Milwaukee Brewers, the San Francisco Giants had run their losing streak to five straight. But the Giants captured the finale to get back on the winning side. Still, that’s three straight series losses by SF.
Luis Matos went 4-for-12 (.333) with two homers to lead the Giants, and Robbie Ray got his 12th win.

August 22 (5-3 loss): The Brewers got all five of their runs in the first two innings, which included a two-run single by Andrew Vaughn and a solo homer by Andruw Monasterio. It stayed 5-0 until the eighth, when the Giants made things interesting. Luis Matos tripled and scored on Heliot Ramos’ single to make it 5-1. In the ninth, Jung Hoo Lee hit a two-run homer (his fifth), to cut the deficit to 5-3. A walk brought the tying run to the plate but the Giants couldn’t complete the comeback.

August 23 (3-2 loss, 10 inn.): Aces Logan Webb and Freddy Peralta both had good outings but made one bad pitch. Rafael Devers hit a two-run homer for the Giants in the top of the fourth (his 15th). Jake Bauers tied it with a two-run homer of his own in the bottom of the fourth. It stayed 2-2 until the 10th inning. The Giants couldn’t score in the top half of the inning. Milwaukee ghost runner Caleb Durbin was sacrificed to third base and Blake Perkins ended it with a sacrifice fly.

August 24 (6-5 win): The Giants ended their slide with the help of five solo homers. The Giants scored in the first inning on an RBI groundout by Dominic Smith. Luis Matos homered twice, in the second and ninth innings, giving him 10 for the season. Andrew Knizner had one in the second inning, Wilmer Flores had one in the seventh (his 12th) and Smith had one in the eighth (his fifth). The Giants needed the late homers because the Brewers scored all five of their runs in the final three innings. Robbie Ray improved to 12-7.
