All the positive momentum that the San Francisco Giants had going for a while seems to be dissipating, as they lost two of three in Sacramento to the Athletics and didn’t win for a third straight series.
Logan Webb continued to win, but the Giants scored a total of one run in the two losses. Patrick Bailey had a team-best three hits and Willy Adames homered twice in one game, giving him a team-best 23 on the season.
After finally pulling ahead of pace in the last couple of weeks, the Giants are back to matching their real-life record.

July 4 (3-1 loss): The Giants scored first, but it was their only run. Jung Hoo Lee led off the second inning with a single and he scored on a two-out single by Sergio Alcantara, who was making his first and only start of the season. The A’s tied it on a Shea Langeliers solo homer in the bottom of the first. Max Muncy had a two-out RBI single to put the A’s ahead 2-1 in the sixth inning. Tyler Soderstrom added a solo homer in the eighth. Justin Verlander didn’t pitch badly but fell to 4-6.

July 5 (6-3 win): Logan Webb and Luis Severino had almost identical stat lines as both gave up one run in six innings of work. But in the top of the seventh, the Giants scored five times off the A’s bullpen. Willy Adames hit his second home run of the game to make it 3-1. Dominic Smith doubled, Patrick Bailey had an RBI single and Mike Yastrzemski hit a two-run homer, his 10th. That put the Giants ahead 6-1. Shea Langeliers hit a second-inning solo homer and Nick Kurtz had a two-run blast in the ninth inning to account for the Athletics’ runs. Webb improved to 12-4 and lowered his ERA to 2.28.

July 6 (4-0 loss): The Giants couldn’t touch Jacob Lopez, who threw a two-hit shutout with 11 strikeouts. Rafael Devers singled in the fourth inning and Matt Chapman doubles in the seventh for the only Giant hits. The Athletics got an RBI double from Max Muncy in the second inning and a three-run homer by Nick Kurtz in the third. Hayden Birdsong fell to 5-5.
