The San Francisco Giants were swept for the first time since the start of July, dropping all three to the visiting Tampa Bay Rays. Logan Webb couldn’t add to his win total, and Joey Lucchesi finally gave up a run and took his first loss. The Giants managed only seven runs on offense and gave up 16. Rafael Devers and Jung Hoo Lee both had four hits and had five of the six RBI.

August 15 (6-5 loss): The Rays built a 5-1 lead heading to the bottom of the sixth. The Giants exploded for four runs to tie the game, as Heliot Ramos had an RBI single and Rafael Devers followed with a three-run homer, his 12th. But Tampa Bay’s Brandon Lowe hit his second homer of the game in the top of the seventh, putting the Rays back in front 6-5. His homer came off Joey Lucchesi (3-1), who gave up his first run of the season after 22 innings of work. The Giants threatened in the eighth but couldn’t tie it up.

August 17 (2-1 loss): Logan Webb (17-5) was an unlucky loser, as he really only threw two bad pitches. But both of them resulted in solo homers by the Rays’ Everson Pereira. Webb didn’t get any run support. The Giants finally got on the board in the seventh on Jung Hoo Lee’s two-out RBI single. But the Rays’ relievers put the Giants down in order in both the eighth and ninth innings.
