The 2025 replay has hit absurd levels, as the San Francisco Giants swept the Pittsburgh Pirates to improve to 19 games over .500, and even more ridiculously got a no-hitter. Not from Logan Webb … not from Robbie Ray … not even from Landen Roupp … it was 42-year-old and low-rated Justin Verlander who blanked the Pirates in the opener.
The Giants scored at least eight runs in each game and hit a couple of eye-raising milestones. Willy Adames hit his 30th and 31st homers (he had 30 in all of 2025). Matt Chapman hit his 20th and 21st home runs (matching his 2025 total). And of course Webb won again, for his 17th victory this season. Ray joined him with double-digit wins.

August 4 (8-0 win): Justin Verlander was untouchable, striking out 12 in his no-hitter. He did hit three batters and gave up one walk. Two of the free passes came in the fifth inning, but the Pirates couldn’t do anything with them. Verlander improved to 5-8. Pittsburgh starter Johan Oviedo was almost equally as good for the first six innings. But Rafael Devers led off the seventh with a double, and three straight walks scored the game’s first run. Another RBI walk made it 2-0, and Grant McCray had a two-run single to make it 4-0. The Giants scored another four runs in the eighth inning, which included a two-run triple by Patrick Bailey.

August 5 (9-2 win): The big hits included Matt Chapman’s three-run homer in the fourth inning and Rafael Devers’ two-run double and Willy Adames’ two-run homer in the fifth inning. Logan Webb did what Logan Webb always seems to do, giving up one run and three hits in six innings to improve to 17-4 and lower his ERA to 2.28.

August 6 (8-4 win): A five-run first inning, which included a two-run homer by Jung Hoo Lee, made it an easy sweep for the Giants. Matt Chapman had a solo homer in the third and Willy Adames had a two-run shot in the seventh. Robbie Ray gave up one unearned run in six innings and improved to 10-7.
