6/13-15/2025: San Francisco at LA Dodgers

The San Francisco Giants turned in two of their best pitching performances of the season to take two of three games on the road against the rival Los Angeles Dodgers. Logan Webb, as one might expect, had one of them. Sean Hjelle quite unexpectedly had the other.

At 41-31, for the first time in the replay, the Giants have pulled even with their actual season record at the end of a series.

June 13 (6-1 win): Logan Webb’s latest masterpiece was a one-hit complete game in which he struck out 15 Dodgers. His only miscue was a solo home run hit by Tommy Edman in the sixth inning. Webb (9-3) pitched to just two batters over the minimum. The Giants got all six of their hits in the first two innings against Dodgers ace Yoshinobu Yamamoto, and made the most of them in scoring six runs. SF loaded the bases in the first inning with no outs but only scored once on a sacrifice fly by Wilmer Flores. Then they had a five-run second inning, which included a two-run single by Heliot Ramos, RBI singles by Dominic Smith and Flores and a bases-loaded walk to Mike Yastrzemski.

June 15 (4-0 win): The most unlikely shutout of the season came with the Giants’ lowest-rated starter, Sean Hjelle, throwing seven scoreless innings. It was his first start and his fourth appearance of the season. The Dodgers had nine hits and put multiple runners on base in five different innings but left a total of 12 stranded for the game. The Giants scored a single run in four consecutive innings: an RBI single by Dominic Smith in the third, an RBI double by Jung Hoo Lee in the fourth, an RBI single by Logan Porter in the fifth and a solo home run by Willy Adames in the sixth. It was Adames’ team-high 18th of the season.
