A run of seven straight series wins finally came to an end, as the Washington Nationals took two of three games from the San Francisco Giants. The Giants won the middle game on a walk-off hit by Willy Adames. San Francisco hit just .192 and was outscored 13-8. Casey Schmitt had a team-best four hits over the three games.

August 8 (3-1 loss): A pretty good pitchers’ duel was decided late. The Nationals got a run in the first inning on Brady House’s RBI double. The Giants evened the score in the second on Casey Schmitt’s RBI single. It stayed 1-1 until the eighth inning. CJ Abrams led off with a solo homer. Washington then loaded the bases with one out and got an RBI single from Drew Millas to make it 3-1. The Giants put two runners on in the bottom of the eighth but couldn’t make the comeback.

August 9 (5-4 win): Drew Gilbert hit a three-run homer to give the Giants a 3-1 lead after the second inning. Behind solo homers from Brady House and CJ Abrams, the Nationals built a 4-3 lead after five. Casey Schmitt tied the game with a homer in the bottom of the sixth. In the bottom of the ninth, Andrew Knizner led off with a single. A sacrifice bunt was able to get Knizner all the way to third base. After the second out, Willy Adames ended it with a walk-off single.

August 10 (6-2 loss): After pitching a no-hitter in his last outing, Justin Verlander (5-9) gave up hits to the first three batters he faced in this one. One was an RBI single by CJ Abrams and another was a two-run homer by Josh Bell, which quickly made it 3-0. Bell hit another two-run homer in the fifth inning to make it 5-1, and Daylen Lile had a solo shot in the sixth inning. The Giants only managed four hits, including solo homers by Matt Chapman in the second inning and Heliot Ramos in the ninth. It was their 22nd and 13th home runs, respectively.
