The San Francisco Giants seem to be over their early-July lull, as they won two out of three games for the third straight series, this time on the road against the Atlanta Braves.
The Giants won five of six against the Braves this season. Heliot Ramos batted 7-for-11 (.636) and Wilmer Flores went 5-for-8 (.625). Willy Adames homered twice to bring his season total to 27. Sean Murphy hit three home runs for the Braves.

July 21 (6-4 loss): In real life, Hayden Birdsong gave up five runs without getting a single out. Birdsong (5-6) did marginally better here, giving up five runs while getting one batter out. Sean Murphy hit a first-inning grand slam for the Braves, and Matt Olson later had a solo shot in the fifth inning. The Giants made things interesting by scoring four runs over the fifth, sixth and eighth innings. Rafael Devers had an RBI double and Mike Yastrzemski had a pair of RBI singles, but San Francisco couldn’t overcome the big early deficit.

July 22 (8-6 win): In a bit of a reverse from the first game, the Giants took the big lead, then held on. In a five-run fifth inning, Luis Matos, Heliot Ramos and Rafael Devers all had RBI singles, and Matt Chapman had a two-run single. San Francisco went up 8-0 in the sixth inning on Willy Adames’ two-run homer. Landen Roupp (7-6) pitched six scoreless innings for the win. Atlanta broke up the shutout bid in the seventh inning, then scored five unearned runs in the ninth inning with the help of two Giant errors, as well as a three-run homer by Ronald Acuna Jr.

July 23 (6-5 win): Willy Adames had a two-run homer in the first inning, Patrick Bailey provided an RBI single in the fourth inning and Casey Schmitt had a solo homer in the fifth inning as the Giants took a 5-3 lead. But Atlanta’s Sean Murphy, who previously hit a three-run homer in the third inning, hit his second blast in the fifth, a two-run shot to tie the game at five. It stayed 5-5 until the top of the ninth. Luis Matos doubled and was sacrificed to third base, and Rafael Devers came through with the go-ahead RBI single.
