The San Francisco Giants and Chicago Cubs traded 3-2, 10-inning victories to start their series. The Cubs then won the finale to send the Giants to their fourth consecutive series loss.
San Francisco hit just .188 in the three games, and Heliot Ramos was the only player to amass four hits. Casey Schmitt had a walk-off hit in the extra-innings victory. Wilmer Flores had four of the team’s seven RBI.

August 26 (3-2 loss, 10 inn.): The Giants took a 2-0 lead on Wilmer Flores’ two-run homer in the second inning, his 13th of the season. It stayed 2-0 until the seventh inning, when Pete Crow-Armstrong tied it with a two-run homer of his own. In the top of the 10th, Nico Hoerner’s two-out RBI single put the Cubs up by one. In the bottom of the 10th, the Giants advanced the ghost runner to third base with one out but couldn’t bring the tying run home.

The Giants took a 2-0 lead on an RBI single by Jung Hoo Lee in the second inning and a solo homer by Casey Schmitt in the sixth (his 11th). Once again, the Cubs tied it in the seventh with two runs, this time on solo homers by Nico Hoerner and Seiya Suzuki. It went to extra innings again. This time, the Cubs didn’t score in the 10th. The GIants got a clutch two-out, walk-off single by Schmitt.

August 28 (5-2 loss): Logan Webb (17-6) had his second-worst start of the season, giving up five runs in five innings. That included back-to-back doubles by Dansby Swanson and Reese McGuire to start the scoring in the second inning, and a two-run homer by Pete Crow-Armstrong in the fifth. Shota Imanaga tossed eight scoreless innings and struck out 10. The Giants avoided a shutout on Wilmer Flores’ two-run single with two outs in the ninth.
