On the plus side, the San Francisco Giants won the first extra-innings contest of the replay, as Willy Adames smacked a two-run homer in the bottom of the 11th in the opener of a three-game series against the Texas Rangers. But on the minus side, the Giants lost the next two to fall even further behind pace.
The Giants batted just .125 over the three games and Adames was the only Giant to collect three hits in the series. Jake Burger went 6-for-12 to lead the Rangers, who hit .261.

April 25 (3-1 win, 11 innings): Justin Verlander and Nathan Eovaldi each pitched five shutout innings, but couldn’t make it six. The Rangers opened the scoring in the top of the sixth when Josh Smith doubled, and he then scored on Joc Pederson’s single. The Giants came right back in the bottom of the sixth and tied the game on doubles by Willy Adames and Matt Chapman. It stayed 1-1 into extra innings. Four times, the Rangers and Giants both began an inning with a sacrifice bunt, advance the ghost runner to third base with one out. The first three times, the teams failed to score. The fourth time, Adames hit a two-run homer, his fourth of the season, to give the Giants the walk-off win.

April 27 (5-2 loss): The Rangers took a 2-0 lead in the top of the second, but the Giants tied it immediately in the bottom half of the frame as Wilmer Flores hit his second home run in two games, and Patrick Bailey later had an RBI double. But the Giants wouldn’t advance another runner past first base until the ninth inning. The Rangers retook the lead on Jake Burger’s RBI single in the fourth inning, and added two insurance runs in the ninth inning on Marcus Semien’s two-RBI single. The Giants got the tying run to the plate in the bottom of the ninth but couldn’t mount a comeback.
