The San Francisco Giants wrapped up April by winning a series for just the third time, beating the San Diego Padres twice on the road in a two-game series. That improved the Giants’ record to 14-17.
The Giants went to 2-0 this season in extra-innings contests with a game 1 victory, and Willy Adames drove in all three runs while Landen Roupp notched his first win of the season in game 2.

April 29 (3-2 win, 11 innings): Both teams scored in the first inning, the Giants on an RBI double by Jung Hoo Lee and the Padres on an RBI single by Luis Arraez. San Diego went ahead 2-1 in the fourth on Jose Iglesias’ RBI groundout. A Padre error — one of four in the game by San Diego — helped San Francisco tie the game in the fifth. It stayed 2-2 into extra innings. In the top of the 11th, Heliot Ramos beat out a bunt single to put runners on the corners, and LaMonte Wade had a sacrifice fly to put the Giants ahead. Lou Trivino pitched two excellent innings of relief to pick up his second win, and got a strikeout and a popup to strand the Padres’ tying run on third base in the bottom of the 11th.

April 30 (3-1 win): The Padres got on the board first on Xander Bogaerts’ RBI double in the fourth inning. The Padres tried to score two on the play, but Gavin Sheets was thrown out at the plate. Willy Adames hit his fifth home run of the season in the top of the fifth, a two-run shot that put the Giants up 2-1. In the seventh, Tyler Fitzergald doubled, went to third on a sacrifice bunt and scored on an Adames sacrifice fly. Landen Roupp (1-3) pitched six good innings to win his first game of the season, and Camilo Doval earned his third save with a 1-2-3 ninth.
