Game #27 — South Jersey 4, SoCal 3 (11 inn.)
Both teams managed one run in the first inning. South Jersey’s Emmet Heidrick led off the game with a triple and scored on Ducky Holmes’ sacrifice fly. SoCal got a single and stolen base by Tommy Dowd, then an RBI single from Fred Clarke. In sixth, the Hornets took a 2-1 lead when Roger Bresnahan singled and scored on Harry Steinfeldt’s double. But the TWrecks tied it in the eighth, matching their first run when pitcher Roscoe Miller led off with a triple and scored on another Holmes sacrifice fly. The Hornets put runners on first and second in both the eighth and ninth innings but couldn’t find a clutch hit. In the top of the 11th, South Jersey got a two-out, two-run double from Pop Schriver. In the bottom of the 11th, Dick Padden led off with a double and he scored on Herman Long’s single. Long was sacrificed to second base, and William Nance walked to put two runners on. The Hornets then hit into a game-ending double play.

Perhaps demoralized by the extra-innings loss, the Hornets came out flat and surrendered five runs on five hits in the bottom of the first. The TWrecks would later get a three-run homer by Bill Coughlin in the fourth and a two-run homer by John Anderson in the eighth. The Hornets finally scored an unearned run in the sixth on a Fred Clarke RBI single. In the ninth, Roger Bresnahan tripled and scored on a Harry Steinfeldt sacrifice fly.
