Sept. 4 (5-1 Mariners): Jim Beattie pitched a gem, giving up just one run and three hits in a complete-game effort. Two hits and the run came in the first inning, and Beattie only gave up one more hit the rest of the way. Seattle finally tied it in the sixth inning on Steve Henderson’s RBI double, and went ahead 4-1 in the seventh on Alvin Davis’ three-run homer.

Sept. 5 (3-1 Mariners): Steve Henderson broke a 1-1 tie with a solo homer in the top of the fourth for the Mariners. Jim Presley then doubled and scored on Spike Owen’s single to give the Mariners the 3-1 lead, and that’s how it ended. Salome Barojas gave up one run in seven innings of work for the victory.
