3/29/23: Portland 103, Sacramento 91

The Sacramento Kings managed their second straight terrible performance, losing on the road to the undermanned Portland Trail Blazers, 103-91, giving the Kings their first two-game losing streak since early February.

The Kings (44-32) have mostly played .500 basketball since then, but before this game, had followed up their previous eight losses with a win.

The Kings managed just 18 first-quarter points, then scored just 14 in the final period.

De’Aaron Fox had a game-high 15 points. Domantas Sabonis had 11 points and 16 rebounds.

Portland only used seven players and five of them exceeded Fox’s total, led by Shaedon Sharpe’s 21 points and Kevin Knox’s 18 points and 18 rebounds.

Portland led by eight at 14-6 early on, and had a 23-18 lead at the end of the first period. The Kings made nine of 23 shots and missed all eight of their three-point attempts.

The Trail Blazers scored the first two baskets of the second quarter to go up nine at 27-18. The Kings later rallied to take their first lead since 2-0 at 40-38 after a Fox three-pointer. It didn’t last, but Portland led only 51-50 at halftime.

A Barnes three-pointer tied the game at 53 early in the third quarter. Portland then went on a run to go up by 14 at 71-57. Sacramento rallied late in the period to get the deficit down to six at 83-77 heading to the fourth quarter.

The Kings scored just two points in the first three minutes of the fourth quarter, and Portland went up by 13 at 92-79. Sacramento got it down to seven at 94-87 on a Keegan Murray three-pointer with under seven minutes to go. But Sacramento would only get two more baskets the rest of the way, one coming right at the buzzer.
