Gameday #2 featured a pair of walk-off victories, one of which was by the 1971 Pittsburgh Pirates, leaving them as the league’s lone undefeated team after just two games. The 1971 Oakland Athletics had the other walk-off win, and it came in the 12th inning. Somehow, Pete Rose has three home runs in two games for the 1975 Cincinnati Reds.
Standings: Pittsburgh 2-0, Baltimore 1-1, Cincinnati 1-1, Los Angeles 1-1, New York 1-1, Oakland 1-1, Philadelphia 1-1, Boston 0-2
Oakland 3, Los Angeles 2 (12 inn.)
An error and an RBI single helped the A’s to a 2-0 lead in the second inning. It stayed that way until the top of the ninth. With two runners on and one out, the Dodgers’ Ron Cey hit a sacrifice fly, and Joe Ferguson followed with an RBI single to tie the game. In the bottom of the 12th, after the first out and a single by Dave Duncan, Dodger reliever Charlie Hough melted down, issuing three straight walks, the last one with the bases loaded to Joe Rudi to end the game.
